Biography
Mark Mogilevski was born in Kharkov in the Ukraine. He commenced playing the violin at the age of six, studied at the Ukrainian State Conservatorium and later at the Moscow University of the Arts. He is a musician of international repute, both as a violin soloist and as an orchestral leader. He was the concertmaster of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia, the Porto Symphony in Portugal and of the Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Paris, Lisbon, Porto, Genoa, Montpellier, Brasilia, Seoul and Melbourne. In addition to his solo work, he has been an active contributor to the international chamber music scene and has participated in music festivals in France, Spain and Portugal and more recently in the Melbourne Festival. He has also worked with eminent international figures like Mstislav Rostropovich, Yehudi Menuhin, lgor Oistrakh and Yuri Temirkhanov.
Mark Mogilevski has been the recipient of many prestigious national and international awards. He was a double prize winner of' the Ukrainian Competition both as a soloist and a chamber musician as well as a prize winner of the Soviet Union Violin Competition. He was awarded second prize in the Paganini International Violin Competition in Genoa.
As an Associate Professor, Mark Mogilevski taught violin It the Kharkov University of the Arts, Ukraine. He has lectured at St. Petersburg Conservatorium and given master classes in the USA, Brazil, Portugal and France. Since settling in Australia, Mark has been appointed Associate Concertmaster of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He has toured Victoria with the Melbourne Symphony playing Tehaikovsky's Violin Concerto. He gave recitals in prestigious Melbourne Concert Halls, such as the Iwaki Auditorioum, Southgate Church, St Silas Church and Melba Concert Hall to name but a few. Mark repeatedly performed at the Melbourne Festival (1997-1999) and regularly participated in the ABC Classic FM "Sunday Live" series (1997 - 2001). Mark Mogilevski is currently a first violinist of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and a well-known lecturer at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University and Monash University.
