The Mogilevski Duo was created in 1972 when two talented young musicians met each other in Kharkov Conservatory. During the following five years the duo were honing their chamber the ensemble skills and broadening their repertoire under direction of the best music teachers in the USSR.
The duo received public acclaim early in their chamber music career, and managed to combine an extensive concert activity with solo performances and participation in musical competitions of the highest level. Elena Mogilevski is a prize-winner of the Ukrainian Chamber Music Competition and holds a score of awards for participation in various Ukrainian and All-Soviet Union competitions, Mark Mogilevski is a double prize-winner of the Ukrainian Competition (for solo and for chamber ensemble performance), winner of the USSR Competition and second prize winner of the International Paganini Competition in Genoa.
This remarkable competition performance boosted the duo\'s concert activity, and they had the opportunity to perform in the most prestigious Concert Halls of the USSR in Moscow, St Petersburg Piga, and Kiev and to appear on radio and television on a number of occasions.
From 1991 the Mogilevski Duo was based in Europe and performed extensively in Portugal and France Their recitals in prestigious Concert Halls of Lisbon Porto, Montpellier, Paris and other cities were widely acclaimed in press and received great public support. The duo came to Australia in 1995 and was well received by local public and musical community in general. Mark and Elena gave recitals in Melba Hall and South Gate Church, performed at the Red Hill Festival, the Melbourne Festival (1997-1999), toured Australia with chamber music recitals in Sydney and Adelaide and participated regularly in ABC Sunday Life series (1997-2001) and Monash Unversity chamber music series (1995-2001). During the past seven years the Mogilevski Duo has become well known to the public in and outside Melbourne.
